Sunday Check In - Week 1
Like I said in the last post, week 1 is a bit funky. I started last Sunday with my workouts and preparation to get going on my goals for this year. And every Sunday, we're going to check in and see just how the progress is going. Take a look back at my big post of goals here.
I am feeling good about all the work I did coming up with goals for myself, setting up my trackers, and keeping things just easy to follow. I am looking forward to the progress and the things that are yet to come.
So just how did this week go exactly? Let's take a look:
Make more time for date nights
Half way there! We enjoyed a simple date last night. It's so hard to find time to just spend together without worrying about children and every other responsibility we had. But we went out for ramen at a new restaurant in town and also knocked out our weekly grocery shopping. Grocery shopping, not romantic... I know! But it needed to be done and we were out and had kid-free time to accomplish it. So there we have it.
Read 1 new book every month
Done. Ok, this was kind of cheated this month. I read Stuart Little because it is such a popular children's book, I own it, and I have never read it. But I also finished The Great Gatsby that I stated months ago. And I have started Watership Down. If you'd like to follow my book progress more closely, check out my GoodReads profile.
Journal regularly
So far, so good. I have written in my physical journal daily so far. I have written a couple of blog posts to track progress. Overall, I'm happy with where I stand on this goal.
Start playing flute again
I haven't started this one yet. I have it scheduled to start with this new week. I am aiming for 3 days a week of at least 30 minutes a day to practice. That sounds like an insanely small amount of time to practice right now (and it is), but I need to focus on passing my classes first as I'm only a few months away from graduating.
Graduate college
This also hasn't started. Not by my choice. But the schedule for my college means that my next class starts January 5. So tomorrow, it's back to the grind. I am terrified but ready to put my all into passing this one class that is giving me so much trouble.
Learn to crochet
Also not started. This falls under the same category as my flute playing. College first, crochet later if I still have time.
Invest more time in children
We have played games and gone out to eat and run errands together all break long. I am not officially tracking this for this current week. The main point of this goal was to find time and slow down to make these things happen during our regularly scheduled lives with work and school and everything else.
Increase investment income
I am super excited for this one. My current goal is to average $1 per month in passive income. Currently, I sit at 63 cents. I have researched stocks that I would like to invest in for dividends and for quick profit increases. I created spreadsheets for tracking and look forward to starting to make improvements when I get paid in a couple of weeks.
Be more physically fit
On track. I have done a strength workout every other day starting last Sunday (12/28/25). I won't lie. It hurts to do my workouts but they feel so good afterwards. I need this. I was letting myself get to some very unhealthy points and I had to put a stop to the direction I was heading in. It has only been a week but it is already making me feel better to be working out regularly. This upcoming week, I am adding in a running/walking component as well.
Lose weight
Another big success for me this week. I am looking to lose 1-2 pounds every week. It has been difficult to curb the need to snack while on break from work (yay long breaks because of working for a school system). But I am also feeling better by getting portions back under control. I have also been trying to be more mindful of which foods and food types I am putting into my body.
Pounds Lost: 3.2
Inches Lost: 4.25
So all in all, I am quite pleased with week 1. I expect week 2 to slow down considerably, but I'm ready to take it on. What are you most looking forward to this next week?
